I feel very strongly that people do their best in whatever their chosen field if they are both challenged and encouraged to think and grow. The culture must be a good fit - that is, you need to care about, or at least feel good about, the product and the people you are working with. If it wasn't for previous supervisors and some colleagues, and yes, staff, I would not have been able to accomplish much of what I have done. They steered me in the right direction when I was wavering, I used them as a sounding board, and we helped one another step up to new challenges. This happened with both supervisors and staff, and it has made my personal life much more rewarding, because it helped me spend my days doing something I enjoyed and my offtime, doing even more of what I enjoyed.
Education
Ramapo College of New Jersey | Bachelor of Arts
Languages (in addition to English): Greek.
Additional Training
Many hardware/software package, with very little in terms of management training, although a smattering of seminars from time to time.
Experience
Paid Position
Manager/Director/Executive Director approximately 18 years
Prentice Hall/Pearson Education/The Princeton Review, Northern New Jersey/New York City
Extra-Curricular/Volunteer Activities
I volunteer time (stuffing envelopes, walking to raise funds, etc) or contribute to many organizations, including the National MS Society, Breast Cancer Fund, Susan G. Komen Foundation, the PMC/Jimmy Fund, The Interfaith Alliance, Coalition for the Homeless, Save the Children, Lambda Legal, The LGBT Community Center, National Wildlife Federation, Sierra Club, Manhattan Theater Club.
Work Related Strengths
I am organized, can make decisions quickly, but know when to admit to an error, I do think out of the box, build teams.
Rewards, Recognition, or Accolades
I was promoted 10 times in 20 years, and I received the President's Award for Outstanding Achievement during a particularly difficult year.
Organization Affiliations
I have only volunteered for the organizations mentioned above, and have held no official office or positions.
Professional Accomplishments
I have been given several groups to work with who needed some reorganization and refocusing. Part of the challenges were in bringing them up to an electronic (or just more updated workflow )stage, but mostly it was in building teams who were self-sufficient and could think on their feet. All other accomplishments happened because of this.
Personality Strengths
I am an outstanding listener and can visualize "out of the box" solutions or ideas that someone may not have thought of, or didn't feel comfortable doing. And I care about the people I talk with - otherwise, I wouldn't talk with them :-)
