I strongly believe in the interactivity of the educational/mentoring process. It isn't a one-way street, and I believe I can learn from a protege just as the protege will, I hope, learn from me. I'm passionate about what I do -- I don't see much value in it otherwise (and I wouldn't be doing it). I enjoy my work, which is currently focused on project management and building our project management organization at my current employer, Synygy Inc.
Education
University of North Texas | BA
Villanova University | Master's Certification in Applied Project Management
Experience
Paid Position
Management Consultant six years
Synygy, Inc., Chester, PA
Created Synygy's Project Management Organization over a two year period. Successfully managed our implementations with SouthTrust Bank and Saxon Mortgage, the former being a four million dollar plus project. Managed our ongoing Schering Healthcare project for over a year.
Paid Position
Management Consultant six years
Superior Consultant, Southfield, MI
Successfully managed a two million dollar plus engagement with Chrysler Corporation to develop a highly secure Long Range Planning application and data warehouse.
Paid Position
Senior Systems Engineer six years
Electronic Data Systems, Plano TX and Troy MI
Managed a year-long Advertising Sales application and data warehouse for The New York Times, which they later sold to several other newspapers. Developed some of the first Lotus Notes applications for the GM Truck division.
Extra-Curricular/Volunteer Activities
I'm an active member of PMI, the Project Management Institute (and a certified PMP). In the past, I've done considerable educational volunteer work in schools. I've also done quite a few books for the blind. Currently I'm active in Synygy's educational outreach program in our new headquarters city, Chester, PA.
Work Related Strengths
I'm very enthusiastic and passionate about my work, and about the company I work for. I maintain high standards for myself, but have learned to accept that not everyone has the same standards that I do. My work is always high quality and completed in a timely manner. I relate well and work professionally with others: superiors, subordinates, and clients as well as my peers.
Rewards, Recognition, or Accolades
I was promoted to Senior Consultant after only six months at Synygy, and was made Managing Consultant after only fifteen months of employment -- one of the fastest promotion tracks the company has ever awarded. I have been recognized on several occasions for my work in project management at Synygy.
Research and Publications
I wrote a 120-page Activity Book for use in Systems Engineer training while at EDS. I also was a contributer to revisions to the sixteen-volume Systems Life Cycle documentation at EDS, primarily in the Construction phase. Since joining Synygy, I've published some dozen focus documents on special topics of interest to Project Managers, including "How To Start a Project", "Managing Global Teams", "Risk Management", and "Finalizing the Project." I've created six distinct project management training courses used globally at Synygy.
Organization Affiliations
I'm a long-time member of the Project Management Institute, and I'm PMP certified by them. I'm also a member of the Delaware Valley Chapter of PMI.
Professional Accomplishments
My most significant recent accomplishment was the creation, virtually by myself, of Synygy's Project Management Organization, which now includes some dozen project managers, numerous tools for those managers, a useful methodology to increase the likelihood of project success, five specialized training courses, and numerous documents and publications on best practices and quality project management.
Personality Strengths
As I mentioned, I'm passionate and enthusiastic, sometimes to a fault when dealing with more restrained engineers and executives. I love challenge and change -- my current employer has "redefined" itself four times over the past five years. I communicate clearly, and enjoy one-on-one interactions where both parties are actively engaged.

Risk Management for Projects |
 |
| J. Center | 06.14.2006 | Any/All Industries | Project Management |
| Risk Management may be the most misunderstood and poorly used process in the realm of project management. Yet, Risk Management can, almost single-handedly, transform a good project manager from one who's reactive to one who's proactive. Read the article » |
