Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) – 20 years of active service locally and nationally. Currently serving as District/Chapter Chair 2007. Advisor to PRSSA University of Hawaii students, PRSSA, for 5 years.
Chair of MegaComm 1997 a full day professional development program for PRSA and International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) professionals.

Professional Accomplishments

Secured millions of dollars worth of international, national and local media exposure for the Sheraton Waikiki including:
• Secured a minimum of $13 Million plus in ad equivalency for domestic and international publicity for four Sheraton Hotels in Waikiki in one year.
• Secured a minimum of $1 Million plus in ad equivalency for local publicity in one year.
• Media regarded BJ as a source for information on the news of Waikiki
Handled crisis communications for the Sheraton Waikiki including:
• 1990 Strike – First strike in the hotel industry (also 1992)
• 1992 Hurricane Iniki
• Numerous Tsunami alerts
• December 2000 murder of chef in hotel. Provided media statements and coordinated Memorial for hotel industry.
• 2001 attacks on New York- These attacks rendered Waikiki a ghost town and it became apparent that a long term strategy of recovery would need be communicated.
One of the founding members of the Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau’s network of PR colleagues.
Spearheaded an effort by a group of PR representatives from the tourism industry to develop an action plan and campaign to revive the allure of Waikiki.
Has served as the “voice of experience” to more than 350 communications students by providing internships. Many of the students who have completed this internship program have become PR professionals based in Hawaii and all over the world.
