WANTED: “INGAGING” MENTORS
**New Company Seeks to Bridge Generation/Experience Gap in Business**
HONOLULU – “Wanted: Experienced business professional with extensive knowledge, impressive networks, and broad-based business experience, willing to share vision and career histories with younger professionals and provide supportive, constructive feedback. Excellent communication and coaching skills highly desired. Must have spare time on their hands.”
This could be an ad placed by INGAGE, a new web-enabled company that carefully pairs young professionals on a specific career path with mentors having the experience and credentials to lead the way. That’s because the company is seeking older, experienced business professionals to serve as mentors for young up-and-coming professionals. While the role of a mentor has been relatively informal, usually taken on by a senior manager or executive, INGAGE has recognized the need for a much more formal process; one which matches older and retired business professionals who have the desire to give back to a younger generation and the time to do so, with ambitious young professionals working their way up the career ladder.
“There are many older workers who wish to ease out of work and who are looking for something new that is worthwhile,” says Christine Ing, president and founder of INGAGE. “These individuals, because of their years of experience, have a lot to offer younger individuals. Through mentoring, older workers and retirees are able to pass on their skills, knowledge and expertise to younger business professionals. Mentors share their vision and career histories so that younger employees understand what they can learn through lateral career moves and on-the-job experience.”
The business knowledge and work experience of young professionals is vastly different from that of an older worker. While a 25-year-old may offer superior technological skills and the ability to multi-task, a 60-year-old has the knowledge, business know-how, and work ethic that is not taught in school and only comes with experience. Through mentoring both the mentor and protégé teach and learn from each other. The protégé builds new business knowledge and skills, while the mentor fosters the next generation of business leaders, leaving their legacy.
INGAGE offers mentoring services to organizations and business professionals in the form of one-on-one mentoring, group mentoring, virtual mentoring, and mentor speakers. INGAGE mentors determine their own time commitment to their protégées, managing their schedules, deciding how many protégés to mentor, and the number of hours they dedicate to mentoring. In addition to being paid for their time, INGAGE offers rewards to their mentors through their Lifestyle and Wellness Benefits Program, such as gift certificates to Mandara Spa, Geek Squad, Harry & David, and Home Depot.
INGAGE is searching for potential mentors. If you fit the description, please contact Amy Matsushima, director of human resources at (808) 772-0465 or email your resume to amy@ingagementors.com.
