NEW COMPANY OFFERS “INGAGING” EXPERIENCE FOR BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS
**Mentoring Programs for the Electronic Age**

HONOLULU – When Jack Welch as the new head for General Electric instituted a formal mentoring program in the 1970s where experienced company veterans took new employees under their wing to help them along, little did he know this would be recognized as one of the forward-thinking initiatives that would make him one of the worlds most productive and highly paid CEOs. The concept was simple and, more importantly, it worked: connect employees who had skills and experience with those who didn’t, create an atmosphere of trust, allow free-flowing communication, and watch new ideas and conversations increase profits.

Fast forward to 2006, where many of those who were mentored in the 70s are ready to retire. Industries have changed and business processes have accelerated to the speed of the web. “Many executives know the benefits that mentoring brings to both mentor and protégé, as well as to their company,” says Christine Ing, president and founder of INGAGE. “But often times they do not have the time or resources within their corporations to provide this valuable service to their employees.”

INGAGE, a new Hawaii-based company, has developed a unique web-based process that reproduces the elements that made mentoring so successful, offering an alternative to companies who want to create mentoring programs for their employees. It ensures good personality fits and clearly understood and shared goals, in an atmosphere of trust that allows mentors and protégés to connect and interact face-to-face in real-time or via the Internet.

“The INGAGE mentor-matching process is similar to an online dating site,” said Ing. “After protégés select the industry and/or business skill in which they are interested, a list of potential mentors is generated. “Protégés have the opportunity to read through each mentor’s profile, which describes their experiences, skills, and strengths, among other attributes, and select the one who they believe would be the best mentor for them. The selected mentor will then receive a questionnaire completed by the protégé and will then contact the protégé to begin the mentoring relationship.”

Since INGAGE is web-based, it enables mentoring relationships to take place in different cities, states, or even countries. “We realize that sometimes the best mentor and protégé match may be beyond Hawaii’s shores, so we’re using technology to make these connections,” added Ing.

The IngageZone at www.ingagementors.com allows mentors and protégés to communicate via the Internet, allowing them to track their progress, build a network for support through a discussion board where all mentors and protégés are able to meet, and access resources and materials to assist the protégé in their development. INGAGE labels the time-shifted mode that reproduces face-to-face interaction as “telementoring.”

Established in 2006, INGAGE, INC. is a web-enabled company that offers mentoring services to organizations and business professionals in the form of one-on-one mentoring, group mentoring, virtual mentoring, and mentor speakers. INGAGE is the first online mentoring company available to Hawaii and mainland businesses. For more information, visit ingagementors.com.
