HONOLULU – “I wish I knew then what I know now.” Many business executives probably utter that phrase when looking back on their early career. As new up-and-coming professionals, they would have benefited from a mentor – someone who could have provided them with the expertise, advice and support that cannot be taught in school. INGAGE is a new a web-enabled company that brings mentors and protégés together by offering mentoring services to organizations and business professionals in the form of one-on-one mentoring, group mentoring, virtual mentoring, and mentor speakers.

While the role of a mentor has been relatively informal, usually taken on by a senior manager or executive who has agreed to assist in the professional development of a less experienced individual, INGAGE has developed a formal process that carefully pairs young professionals on a specific career path with mentors having the experience and credentials to lead the way.

“The INGAGE mentor-matching process is similar to an online dating site,” said Christine Ing, president and founder of INGAGE. “After protégés select the industry and/or business skill in which they are interested, a list of potential mentors is generated. Protégés have the opportunity to read through each mentor’s profile, which describes their experiences, skills, and strengths, among other attributes, and select the one who they believe would be the best mentor for them. The selected mentor will then receive a questionnaire completed by the protégé and will then contact the protégé to begin the mentoring relationship.”

Since INGAGE is web-based, it enables mentoring relationships to take place in different cities, states, or even countries. The IngageZone at www.ingagementors.com allows mentors and protégés to communicate via the Internet, allowing them to track their progress, build a network for support through a discussion board where all mentors and protégés are able to meet, and access resources that provide additional articles and materials to assist the protégé in their development.

“We realize that sometimes the best mentor and protégé match may be beyond Hawaii’s shores, so we’re using technology to make these connections,” added Ing. “It’s called ‘telementoring’ – a process that combines the proven practice of mentoring with the speed and ease of electronic communication.”

Mentoring programs have benefits not just for the protégé, but for the mentor and employer, as well. By mentoring, seasoned executives can contribute to their own personal and professional growth, be identified as someone of professional distinction who can serve as an example and role model for others, and enables them to support and foster the next generation. For the employer, mentoring programs can be a valuable tool in employee recruitment and retention, provide an effective succession planning strategy and leadership development program, and contribute to the promotion of diversity in an organization.

INGAGE’s One-on-One Mentoring packages range from $1,400 to $12,200 and its Group Mentoring fees begin at $1,100/protégé and run up to $9,700/protégé. Virtual Group Mentoring ranges from $60-$250 per session and Mentor Speakers fees are $350 per hour.
